Liang Wenchong will be the first Chinese player to compete at the Open when he lines up at Royal Birkdale next July. Home favourite Trevor Immelman survived three bogeys on his final three holes to take out the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City by one shot from Englishman Justin Rose. Rose challenged late in his round to draw level at 17-under on the par-4 18th tee before pulling a drive into the trees and eventually carding a double-bogey six that cost him a shot at victory. Kiwi golfer Tim Wilkinson will be playing for a lot more prize money next year after earning a US PGA Tour card for 2008. The left-hander finished in a share of 14th in the gruelling six-round final qualifying school at Orange National at Winter Garden, Florida. Donald Trump’s plan to create a £1bn golf resort in Scotland is “dead”, according to the man who made the final decision to reject it. The US billionaire wanted to build a golf complex and housing development at the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire.
