Nike give women golfers the Slingshot

NIKE GOLF OFFERS WOMEN FIRST COMPLETE EQUIPMENT LINEUP

New Irons, Woods and Driver Available for women golfers

Building on the industry-leading success of its women’s apparel and the meteoric rise of its Sport Collection footwear and Verdana Collection footwear and bags for women, Nike Golf will introduce its first complete lineup of equipment designed for women at golf shops and golf specialty stores throughout Europe.

The women’s lineup includes Nike Golf’s Slingshot Irons, the new irons with the revolutionary Slingback design; T-40 Fairway Woods in 3, 5, 7 and 9; and a 295cc driver engineered specifically for women. The club line is brought together beautifully with the Glacier Blue colourway adorning each club head.

Completing the lineup, Nike Golf has added to its popular Verdana golf bag offering with the new Verdana Limited Cart Bag and accessory shoe tote bag.

“Every step of the way and in every category we have worked closely with women of varying playing abilities to create an initial line that will meet the playing needs of a broad audience of women,” said Nike Golf’s U.S. General Manager David Pillsbury.

“From aesthetics and performance to price points and depth of line, we’ve created a great platform from which to build future women’s equipment lines.”

Women’s Slingshot Irons (SRP: £599 / Available: November 2003) Nike Golf’s Director of Product Creation and lead club engineer Tom Stites set out ten years ago to create a set of irons that would appeal to a broad spectrum of player abilities due to their easy playability and precision accuracy. The result of his historic journey is Slingshot, quite possibly the easiest hitting irons golfers have ever seen.

The magic behind the Slingshot Irons is the proprietary Slingback technology – a metal bar arcing from heel to toe – that positions the centre of gravity (CG) low, rearward and in the heel of long irons to facilitate squaring the club head at impact and to create a higher ball flight for long, soft-landing shots.

Throughout the set, the flow weighting of the Slingback design shifts the CG incrementally higher, closer to the face, and towards the toe as it moves toward the short irons. This progression reduces the launch angle and increases the spin rate which helps prevent shots from ballooning while maintaining the ability to hold greens.

The easy of playability for women extends beyond the club head design and right up through the Slingshot Irons shaft. The Women’s Slingshot Constant Graphite Shaft is ultra lightweight (sub-60 grams). The design is specifically for women with a very soft tip to help launch the ball on a high trajectory.

The Women’s Slingshot set consists of a 5-iron through a Sand Wedge in the Women’s Slingshot Constant Weight Graphite Shaft. The Women’s Slingshot 4-iron (SRP: £89 /) and 50-degree Approach Wedge (SRP: £89 /) will be sold individually.

Women’s 295cc Driver (SRP: £179 / Available: November 2003) Nike Golf opted for a slightly larger driver head than the industry standard. This 295cc Driver is constructed of a 355 Stainless Steel and maintains a forgiving, low and deep centre of gravity position that helps keep off-centre hits closer to their intended target.

The loft is 12-degrees, keeping in line with Nike Golf’s edict that “loft is your friend” and promotes greater distance. Similar to the Women’s Slingshot Irons Graphite Shaft, the driver shaft is an ultra lightweight sub-60 grams.

Women’s T-40 Fairway Woods (SRP: £179 / Available: November 2003) In keeping with the theme of easy playability, the key element of the T-40 series is the 40-gram Tungsten plug sole insert. The 40-gram tungsten plug places two-thirds of the clubhead weight below the equator of the golf ball, which contributes to optimal lift and shot trajectory. Combined with a larger face and cambered sole, the result is a more forgiving club that provides greater distance and accuracy from a variety of lies.

The Women’s T-40 Fairway Woods will be available in a 3-wood (16-degree), 5-wood (19-degree), 7-wood (21-degree), and 9-wood (23-degree).
